Mummy Experiment Part 1

Today we got a jump start on our Ancient Egypt projects by mummifying apples. We will have to wait seven days to see the results. It was very interesting reading how this process has worked. I never knew I liked history that much until now. I will post the results next week.

Math Power Towers

Math Power Towers is another awesome math game I found online. Father and son tested their skills at multiplication. I wonder who won....

Jenga Math

I am always looking for new ways to reinforce multiplication. So what better way to do this than to play Jenga Math. I found this idea on Pinterest one of my favorite places to find new activities. The boys really had a blast playing this game.

Place Value Battleship

We are working on place value in our math studies. I searched the internet for a fun game to reinforce what they are learning. They really enjoyed playing this game and I look forward to them playing it more in the future.

Cursive Writing Memory Work

I noticed that the boys were struggling with their cursive writing. I made this daily worksheet and laminated it for them to put in their notebooks. They are required to copy writing the tables rotating daily. On the flip side is their multiplication tables which they are required to copy daily.

Michael's $2 Grab Bag Haul

Today I ran into Michael's Arts and Crafts to get a circle punch. I remembered that one of my Facebook friends posted about $2 Grab Bags boxes. Low and behold when I came into the store there was a stack of these boxes right in front of me. The three boxes I grabbed was filled to the brim with Christmas merchandise. These items will come in handy because we like to have holiday parties.

First Creation of 2014

This is a card I made for a monochromatic challenge. I don't often have time these days to play in my craft room. So I started a Facebook challenge hoping it would motivate me to do what I love. Of course I had a million things on my plate but I pushed on and cranked this card out. I really like the way it turned out. What is your passion and how often do you do it?

Great Start With Math Interactive Notebooks

Don't you just love it when your Monday starts out great. Well today was that kind of day for us. The boys got up on time and we jumped right into our studies. First up bible study which went very well. Then it was time for us to tackle math. Last week I gave the boys a math review test to see what they had learned and retained. Testing them helps me plan my lessons for the rest of the year.

After reviewing everything it was time for me to put the information to use. We are utilizing interactive notebooks they help to take big ideas and processes and break down them into logical, sequential, and much more manageable parts. My oldest started Algebra this semester and having these notebooks really has been a blessing. It takes a lot of time putting them together but the support they have been to my children has been priceless.
Since I have multiple children at lower grade levels, I made a notebook for me to reference as well.

Bible Study

I love the freedom that home education gives us. To be able to study God's word with the boys is such a blessing. I really enjoy watching them dig deep into their bibles. It allows them to see themselves the way that God sees them. This allows them to know God for themselves.

It's Freezing in The "D"

Talk about being cold in the "D" is an understatement. We are freezing our butts off with this below 0 weather and crazy negative double digit windchill.

It's so cold in my house that we had to homeschool in my bedroom because our main floor is so drafty. If you are experiencing weather like this you are not alone.

Our 19th Wedding Anniversary

Today we are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary. I can't believe how fast the years has flew by in our marriage. Seems just like yesterday we were driving to Toledo, Ohio to get married at the county court house. Yes! I said county court house.... Our wedding had been planned, my dressed picked out and everything then we got into a disagreement and cancelled the wedding. It was not a fairytale wedding ceremony we just eloped. The only thing I miss is not having a wedding picture. My father did throw us a wedding reception which was really nice and we went on our honeymoon to Canada. Since then God has blessed our union and has been the head of our lives every since.

We decided to try out a newly opened "Cheesecake Factory" for the first time. When we arrived it was an hour wait so we walked the mall and did some window shopping. Stopping into the jewelry store where we brought our wedding rings years ago. While there the clerk asked to clean and reshape my rings which I agreed to. Well after I got my rings back I noticed one of my stones was missing. So now I have to wait a week to get it back. Bummer.. I guess all the dirt was holding it in.

The restaurant was really nice and crowded. They first sat us at a table in between people which I did not like. I requested to be moved to a booth because it was more private and intimate. I mean come on it's our anniversary. The food was a nice portion and delicious. My husband had Spicy Chicken Chipotle Pasta. I had Pasta Da Vinci. For desert we shared a slice of Pineapple Upside-Down Cheesecake.

To sum it up I really had a great day and some awesome years with my husband. I'm looking forward to our next anniversary which will be our 20th.
